When using a chopper, you want to be able to adjust the size of the pieces from a fine dice to large chunks. And you will save time with a chopper that does its work in one go. So we tested the two features mentioned below. How many passes does it take to chop a whole onion? Is the dice size adjustable or not?
Second, we tested how easy it was to operate the chopper. We asked seven people to chop onions and carrots and to rate the products based on how much force they needed to use.
Next, we rated the uniformity of the dicing produced by each chopper. We used onions, carrots, and tomatoes in our testing. We gave a high score to those that didn't make vegetables too watery and diced them evenly and cleanly.
Last, we tested ease of maintenance based on the following three factors. Is it dishwasher-safe or not?Is it a shape that's easy to wash?Is it straightforward to assemble?

Using a vegetable chopper decreases food preparation time by a lot. We diced a whole onion using a knife and using a food chopper. It took three and a half minutes with a knife. However, it only took a minute with a vegetable chopper. So, using a chopper cut prep time by one-third.
Do you tend to make a mess when chopping food by hand? With a vegetable chopper, all the food is stored in its tray or bowl. You won't have to wipe a mess off your counter or sweep food pieces from your floor.
Even novice chefs can easily dice vegetables into uniform pieces using a chopper. Unless you're very skilled, dicing with a knife often yields irregular pieces. There even are adjustable choppers. You can cut food into different sizes and shapes to suit different dishes.
Although choppers are faster than manual cutting, when making a large batch of food, you'll wear yourself out turning the handle! An electric vegetable chopper lets you dice vegetables by simply pressing a button. Although an electric chopper may cost more than a manual one, it might meet your needs better.
In this article, however, we only looked at manual vegetable choppers.
A vegetable chopper is great to dice vegetables like onions or tomatoes fast. It can reduce meal prep time and takes less effort than using a knife. But with so many brands available online, like OXO, Fullstar and Mueller, how do you know which ones will be worth having in the kitchen?
Take a look at our rankings and check out our buying guide, so you can learn about what to choose! We rounded up 17 of the bestselling vegetable choppers from Amazon, Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond, and tested them.
There are three main types to pick from. One rotates the blades, one has a hinged lid that pushes the food through a grate, and the last presses the blades down on the food. Among these three, mybest highly recommends rotating-blade choppers.
A rotating-blade chopper is genuinely easy to operate. It requires effort to use the other types since you have to push something down for each chop. However, with the rotating-blade kind, every pull of the cord or turn of the handle spins the blades. You can easily and quickly dice a large number of vegetables at once.
Also, compared to the push or press types, this kind of chopper makes less noise when you use it.
The rotating-blade type can dice vegetables more finely than the other two types. We tested all three with red onions, carrots, and tomatoes. Only the rotating blades performed well when dicing both soft and hard foods.
The push type can also chop vegetables uniformly. However, some kinds of vegetables will need to be cut thinly beforehand. On the other hand, as long as you cut them into one-inch chunks beforehand, you can perfectly dice anything with rotating blades.
Another plus is that to get a finer dice, you only have to turn the handle or pull the string more times. You can use it for a wider range of dishes.
The press-button type is similar in that you can push it multiple times to make finer pieces. However, most of the ones we tested weren't sharp enough to get a fine dice.
A rotating-blade chopper usually has only a container, lid, and blade. This simple design makes it a lot easier to clean and maintain. Food can be quickly rinsed off.
The push and press types have complex blades, making them difficult to clean. Even after we put them in a dishwasher, not all the food bits were completely washed off their blades.
Of the three ways that the blade can be spun, we found the kind of chopper that had a pull-cord easiest to use.
The biggest difference we observed among the rotating-blade choppers was in how well they chopped the ingredients. One-inch carrots chopped by the pull-cord type were the finest and most uniform.
With a crank handle or push-button types, one-inch carrots got stuck on the blades and made it hard to turn. So we recommend you pre-cut vegetables thinly beforehand if you are using these kinds.
Even though this kind is hard to clean, it's a great help when dicing onions fast.
The push type can reduce your food prep time a lot when dicing an onion. You will only need to cut it in half beforehand, not into one-inch cubes as you do with the other types of choppers. However, because it only cuts in one direction, all vegetables except onions need to be thinly cut beforehand.
Usability varied among the push types, but the products from Mueller and Fullstar performed well. Their outer housing is thick and durable, and the sharp blade can dice half an onion really smoothly.
On the other hand, some of the products required repeated pushes to chop the food all the way through. The blades were too dull, and our testers' hands got tired.
Make sure to check the width of the chopping grate when buying a push type. It determines how much you can dice at once. A model with a grate wider than three inches will fit half an average-sized onion.
This type works by slamming a large button down, but the blades don't rotate. The containers on this type are relatively small, which limits the amount you can dice at once. They're recommended for those who only need to make a small amount at a time.
We highly advise you to check whether the product is easy to wash. The blades can be very hard to clean with this type, but some, like Geedel, have a cover that comes off, making it easier.
When the blade cover isn't removable, it is hard to rinse away food from between the blades or drain off the water, making it unsanitary.
For more information on the ease of maintenance of each, check out our product rankings.

Mueller's 2 Speed Pull Chopper chops fruit, vegetables, boiled eggs, nuts, and more with the pull of a cord. This product is unique, as it features a handy two-speed switch. This allows more control when chopping.
This chopper's greatest strength is its ease of use. In our chopping test, it only took seven to eight pulls to finely chop an onion. Chopping carrots took a bit more work at first, but pulling the cord didn't require a lot of effort. This chopper is easy for anybody to use.
The blade is also sharp enough to cleanly slice through onions, carrots, and tomatoes.
Furthermore, you can reduce your prep time due to the chopper's large capacity. You can chop an entire onion at once, and even customize the size of the ingredients. Just change the number of times you pull the cord.
The entire chopper consists of the main body, lid, and blade, making it simple and easy to wash. However, the blade is sharp, so be careful not to cut your fingers.
mybest confidently recommends this chopper based on how easy it is to use and maintain. Anyone can quickly produce nicely chopped ingredients with this.

The Easy Pull Chopper by Zyliss is a chopper that produces clean and even chopping with the pull of a cord. The most appealing feature of this chopper is its transparent body. You can keep an eye on your ingredients from start to finish.
It also features a large, easy-to-grip handle for maximum comfort and stability. However, you'll have to hold the lid down while pulling because there is no way to secure it.
During the chopping test, the blade was sharp enough to finely chop onions and carrots. It even diced tomatoes neatly, leaving their skin intact.
It's possible to chop an entire onion at once if it's cut into one-inch cubes. However, chopping the onion in two batches produces a more even and uniform finish.
Consisting of just the body, lid, and blade, cleanup was a breeze. A light rinse was more than enough to remove any dirt or debris. By changing the number of pulls on the cord, it's possible to change the size of the ingredients. This chopper is ideal for those who want more precision when it comes to cooking.

The Pull Chop Chopper by KUHN RIKON is a two-cup chopper. It has two stainless-steel blades that can slice through ingredients with a light tug of its cord.
Even when it came to chopping through carrots, we were able to start chopping with minimal effort. Plus, the ergonomic handle features grooves for an easy and secure grip.
We found the blade incredibly sharp. The carrots came out nicely chopped, and even the skins on the tomatoes remained intact. When it came to the chopped onions, you could see some unevenness, but only when you looked closely.
It's possible to chop an entire onion at one time. However, the diced onions came out more even and uniform when split into two batches. It's also worth noting that the lack of grooves in the lid and body makes this chopper extremely easy to clean. However, be careful not to injure yourself when washing the blades.

To start chopping with the Chef'n Hand-Powered Food Chopper, just pull the cord to rotate its three stainless-steel blades. When finished, you can leave the lid as-is and store your chopped ingredients in the refrigerator to use later.
In addition to a large, easy-to-grip handle, the lid of the chopper locks securely onto the container, making it safe and easy to use. This is especially useful for those who wish to use this chopper with kids.
It took about 10 pulls to chop an onion into roughly 1/2 in. size pieces, which was fairly slow compared to other pull-cord choppers.
When chopping onions and carrots, they came out fairly even and finely chopped. On the other hand, the chopper had trouble slicing through the skin of tomatoes, which resulted in large, mushy chunks.
The container, lid, and blade can be taken apart, making this chopper very easy to clean as well.

The Express Manual Food Chopper by Brieftons is a 6.8-cup chopper that chops food by simply pushing down on the handle.
Chopping through onions and tomatoes took very little effort. We were able to chop them into roughly 0.4-inch pieces in about five pumps.
However, when it came to chopping carrots, it took a lot more force to push the handle down. Even after pressing it down a few times, large pieces of about half an inch remained. We would say this chopper is not suitable for firmer ingredients.
If you plan to chop a whole onion, you'll need to split it in two, or else the blades will struggle to cut through it.
The wide-mouth design made it easy to reach inside and wipe clean with a sponge. Furthermore, the chopper could also be easily disassembled and reassembled again.

The Geedel Food Chopper chops through ingredients with a simple push on its robust, 430 stainless steel blade.
The large recesses on the cover make this chopper easy to hold and keep stable while in use. However, as a smaller-capacity chopper, it isn't suitable for large amounts of chopping. If you plan to chop an entire onion at once, you'll need to cut it into two to three one-inch size pieces. If you want to chop it finely, it'll take five or six batches.
The carrots came out finely chopped, and the pieces were fairly even. However, when it came to chopping onions, some of the pieces stuck to the side of the container and weren't chopped thoroughly. Chopped tomatoes were also mostly, uneven with large pieces remaining.
Compared to similar press-type choppers, the shape of the blade helped to prevent ingredients from getting stuck. Users could chop continuously without having to stop. The cover over the blade can also be removed, making this chopper easy to wash as well.

The Mueller Austria Heavy Duty Vegetable Slicer makes chopping easy with its simple design. All you need to do is place your ingredients on any of the four interchangeable chopping blades and press the lid down.
A great feature of this chopper is the raised edges around each blade. This keeps the vegetables contained when you press down on them. The blade is also sharp enough that onions, carrots, and tomatoes came out finely chopped.
The cover of the chopper has a built-in handle, making it very easy to open and close. You can chop half an onion at one time. You may need to adjust the size of the onion in order to make sure it fits on the blade though.
When it came to cleaning the chopper, it was hard to remove the food that got stuck between the blades and on the lid. It still wasn't completely clean even when we used the included cleaning brush.

The CTG-00-SCHP Chopper from Cuisinart minces and chops with a press of its stainless-steel blade.
The bottom lid can easily be removed to insert and take out your favorite ingredients. However, we found that onions and tomatoes stuck to the sides of the container while chopping. Despite shaking the chopper to redistribute the pieces, the results were still uneven.
On the other hand, carrots came out evenly chopped without any large pieces. Therefore, this chopper is more suitable for firmer ingredients.
In order to prevent the ingredients from getting caught between the blades, you have to push the handle down rapidly. Doing this produces a loud noise, so you'll need to choose wisely when and where you chop.
When cleaning this chopper, we found it difficult to remove food stuck in the gaps of the blade because of its unique shape.

The OXO Good Grips One Stop Chop Manual Food Processor features three sharp stainless-steel blades that rotate with the turn of a handle. This chopper also features a non-slip bottom that secures in place when you slide a lever on the side of the unit.
The sliding lever, however, required a lot of force before it budged. Also, we found the chopper's handle big and difficult to grip. This made it hard to apply enough force to start cranking.
When it came to chopping, we found that the handle wouldn't turn if a whole onion was inserted. Therefore, it's necessary to split it in two beforehand. Although it required a lot of force at first, once the ingredients were finely chopped, we were able to turn the handle smoothly.
As for finely chopping onions and carrots, the results were a bit uneven due to some 0.8-inch pieces mixed in. When it came to tomatoes, they came out crushed and mushy. Fortunately, the chopper consists of only the main body, lid, and blade. These are all extremely easy to wash and maintain.

The Zick-Zack Classic Food Chopper is an innovative chopper produced by the Swiss company Zyliss. A unique feature of this chopper is that it can double as a storage container.
We found that the container held about two to three one-inch pieces of onions at a time. Therefore, as a small-sized chopper, it's not suitable for large amounts.
We also found that the blade wasn't sharp enough and left large pieces of chopped onions about 0.8 inches in size. The tomatoes also came out a bit mushy and crushed. Carrots, on the other hand, came out nicely minced even when we chopped them down to 0.5 inches or smaller. Therefore, we believe this chopper is better suited for firm ingredients.
Though tiring, we found it necessary to push down repeatedly in order to really mince the ingredients. Also, since the shape of the blade is complicated, it was hard to remove the food that was stuck inside.

The Good Grips Chopper by the universal design-conscious brand OXO is a versatile chopper. It has a handy locking mechanism that allows for compact storage.
We had to press the button down rapidly to prevent food from getting stuck in the blade while chopping. However, this gets very tiring. Furthermore, it was time-consuming to chop a large number of ingredients. The container comfortably holds only half of its capacity.
Some of the onions got stuck to the bottom of the container, which resulted in uneven chopping. Furthermore, the tomatoes were mushy from being crushed.
On the other hand, the carrots came out fairly uniform. Therefore, we find this chopper more suitable for firm ingredients. Since the blade is tucked away in the main body, it was difficult to wash and clean between the blades.

The 9-in-1 Deluxe Vegetable Chopper is a multifunctional chopper produced by Fullstar. This chopper comes with seven different attachments. This includes two chopping blades and two spiralizer inserts. It's also made from BPA-free plastic for those who want peace of mind.
A great feature of this chopper is the wide blade plates. At about 3.3 inches in diameter, it's possible to chop a large amount at one time. However, since the plates are a bit narrower than half an onion, some prep work is required.
In terms of chopping, it didn't take much effort to chop onions. However, we found a lot of force was needed to chop carrots. We couldn't get the carrots to chop smoothly even when we used our weight.
Fortunately, this chopper comes with a lock to secure the blade plates once inserted. A sturdy cover makes it easy to push ingredients through the blades. Although many ingredients got stuck between the gaps of the blade, they were easy to remove with the included pick.

The Alrens Vegetable Chopper has seven interchangeable blades. It can easily chop, slice, and grate vegetables. You can also choose from blue, gray, or white to match your other kitchen gadgets.
Despite its versatility, the cover was too thin and would bend when pressed down. The blade was also not sharp enough to chop half of an onion. Therefore, we had to cut it into 1-inch pieces before placing it in the chopper. When it came to chopping carrots, we had to push down the center of the lid in order to get the carrots to go through the blade.
Fortunately, this chopper comes in three parts and is fairly easy to assemble. However, the ingredients tend to get stuck between the gaps in the blade and the grid on the lid cover. This makes it difficult to clean.

The Pro-Series 10-in-1 is a chopper from the famed German kitchenware brand Mueller. This chopper comes with a total of eight interchangeable blades. This includes those for slicing and shredding.
We found that although it is possible to chop half an onion at once, it takes a lot of momentum and force. It also makes a lot of noise when the lid meets the main unit, so you may want to take care when you use it.
A great feature of this chopper is the raised edges around the blade plate. This keeps the ingredients in place when the lid is pressed down. This chopper had zero issues when it came to chopping onions and carrots. It even managed to neatly cut through the skin of the tomatoes.
There were a lot of ingredients that ended up stuck between the gaps in the blade and the grid on the lid. This made it difficult and time-consuming to clean, even with the included cleaning brush.

The Original Vidalia Chop Wizard offers a quick way to chop vegetables with the press of a lid. This chopper also includes two different-sized chopping blades and a cleaning tool.
When we tried chopping half of an onion, we found that the chopper failed to cut through it cleanly. It left the outer layer unchopped. You have to take the time to cut the onion into smaller pieces beforehand when using this chopper.
Since it takes a lot of force to use, we don't recommend this chopper for children and the elderly. Another drawback is that the ingredients tend to get stuck between the gaps in the blade and the top of the lid. This makes it difficult to wash.
Although the carrots and onions came out evenly chopped, the tomatoes looked a bit crushed.

The Vegetable Chopper by LHS is a manual chopper. It works by sandwiching the ingredients between the lid and the blade, then pushing down. This chopper comes with a safety cover, five different blades, and a cleaning tool.
During our chopping test, we found the blade too dull to chop through the ingredients we tested. We even cut the carrots into small pieces beforehand, but we still had trouble chopping them. We also found it quite stressful that every time we went to chop, the piece that held the blade plate came off. Since the cover of the chopper lacks a handle, it was very difficult to grasp.
Since this chopper uses a grid-like blade, the ingredients come out uniform. However, because it's a grid, there's no way to adjust the size of the ingredients for different meals. Also, the ingredients easily clog the gaps between the blades. This meant it was difficult to wash, resulting in a lower rating.

The Vivaant Food Chopper is a one-cup capacity chopper. It comes with a non-slip bottom for extra security while chopping.
We found the blade unable to reach the ingredients stuck to the bottom of the container. This resulted in uneven chopping. When it came time to chop the onions and carrots, they would get stuck between the blades. This prevented smooth chopping. Finally, pressing down on the chopper makes a loud sound, so be careful when you choose to use it.
A great feature of this chopper, however, is that the cover around the blade can be removed, making it easier to wash. On the other hand, since the shape of the blade is quite complicated, it was difficult to remove debris that got stuck in the gaps.

We compared 17 top-selling products on sites like Amazon, Walmart, and Bed Bath & Beyond. We define a good vegetable chopper as a product that enables you to chop quickly, easily, and cleanly.
We tested the choppers for the following four points:
Test 1: Useful Features
Test 2: Ease of Use
Test 3: Consistency
Test 4: Ease of Maintenance
Products we tested
When using a chopper, you want to be able to adjust the size of the pieces from a fine dice to large chunks. And you will save time with a chopper that does its work in one go. So we tested the two features mentioned below.
