Many who purchase DHC Medicated Lip Cream claim to be repeat users and leave glowing reviews like "It moisturizes so well!" However, we also found reviews that claimed it didn't prevent lip irritation very well and that it melted easily. That's what made us decide to purchase it for ourselves and discover the truth behind these claims. Here's what we learned.
Chances are you've already heard about DHC Medicated Lip Cream, seeing as over 100 million lip balms have been produced worldwide. It claims to hydrate and enliven lips with natural moisturizers like virgin olive oil, aloe extract, and lanolin.
And since it contains no added dyes or fragrances, it's great for those with sensitive skin. It also protects lips using ingredients that mimic skin-produced oils, which helps it blend in with as little effort as possible.
At over $5 a pop, it's a bit more expensive than other lip balms, but people who try it once say they don't want to use anything else. That's why they have so many repeat customers!
We had a group of editors put DHC Medicated Lip Cream to the test. We specifically looked at the following factors:
Test ① Moisturizing ability
Test ② How it felt to use
We also purchased 37 other lip balms and tried them all. If you want to see how DHC Medicated Lip Cream measures up to the rest, check out the article below.
First, we tested it for its moisturizing ability.
We used the SKICON-200EX to precisely measure the moisture levels of our skin before and after use. We applied the lip cream to our arm and took measurements over the course of 8 hours.
After 8 hours, the moisture level of our lips dropped by about 80%. Since it's not great at holding hydration, we'd recommend occasional application for those worried about dryness.
That being said, it's not bad enough that it will make your lips worse. It would just be better to use when you're not having lip troubles.
Next, we tested how it felt to use in terms of ease of using the container, how it felt to put on, and whether or not it felt sticky. To do this, we tried applying DHC Medicated Lip Cream on our hands and then put breath mints on it to see how many of them stuck.
We love the thin packaging, which is colored a fleshy pink. However, the thin cap is a bit hard to close, and it's hard to open with one hand.
The product also comes out a bit fast, so be careful not to break it! If it snaps, you might not be able to get the remaining product back in the tube. Once you get the perfect amount, though, it's super easy to put on.
This lip balm spreads on your lips with just the right texture - not too hard, but not too soft. It's almost soft enough to feel like we'd use up the product quickly, but just a little product is all you need to stay firmly on your lips. It gives lips a dewy finish.
We also loved the fact that it's unscented, so you don't have to worry about using it before or after eating!
Only 3 breath mints remained on our hand during the test. That means the product absorbs quickly into your skin. And since it's not extremely shiny, men should feel comfortable using it as well.
DHC Medicated Lip Cream lived up to its reputation of being super comfortable and moisturizing! It moisturizes your lips to a dewy finish, so we think it rightfully earned its 8th place ranking. Make it a part of your everyday lip care routine!
Since it's not sticky, this would make a perfect base for lip color or to give a little extra shine to your skin post-lipstick application.
We wish it had been more moisturizing, but we think it's a product that people of all genders can use comfortably. If you've got sensitive skin, you'll also love that it's free of added scents and parabens.
DHC is a big enough name in Japan that they've had quite a few collaborations with popular Disney and Peanuts characters. Here are some products they created.
This set contains 5 lip creams featuring different Disney princesses. There's one each of Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine. They're a must-have for Disney fans!
The elegant illustrations make them suitable for adults and children alike. You can also buy them individually or in a set of 6 (with Rapunzel), so search for your perfect combination.
These Snoopy-design packages are poppy and cute with a set of retro colors. Adults and children alike can enjoy the Spy, Boy Scout, and Superman Snoopy designs. They make a great gift!
This set of 3 lip creams is for the Jedi (or Padawan) in you. They feature popular colors in poppy colors that allow you to let your nerdy side out and be fashionable. They're a great conversation starter!
We put DHC Medicated Lip Cream to the test, and it did not disappoint. It's not great for repairing dry or chapped lips, but it's comfortable for daily use by itself, as a base for lip stick, or an extra touch of shine. It would make a great present for friends or family!
